英文中用得最广泛的原因状语从句是由because引导的，但也有as，since引导的。as, since，because都可引导原因状语从句；because用来回答“为什么”的答案，或用来澄清疑惑。 As和since多用于解释，而不是提供“为什么”的答案，翻译时，在句子中的位置比较灵活， 连接词as也可以不译。

比如：

As it is getting late you may stay here for the night.

天晚了，你就在这儿过夜吧。（注：以天晚解释留宿的原因。）

As状语从句可以用作时间状语从句，时间概念介于when和while之间。
