综上所述，在跨文化翻译中，汉译英很难，若翻泽习语、成语、典故、俗话、俚语、歇后语、修辞格便更难。就拿俗语来说，绝大部分都与人们的生产劳动、日常生活以及宗教信仰密切相关，它们具备语言简洁，形象鲜明，含义精辟，表达生动，易于上口等特点。 所以要把这些介绍给外国读者，绝非易事。从杨宪益所翻译的《红楼梦》中的一段话就可见一斑。汉语原文是:“你是知道的，咱们家所有这些管家的奶奶们，那一位是好缠的？错一点儿他们就笑话打趣，偏一点儿他们就指桑骂槐的抱怨。‘坐山观虎斗’ ‘借剑杀人’‘引风吹火’‘站干岸儿’‘推倒油瓶不扶’都是些全挂子的武艺。”
“And you know how difficult our stewardesses are, laughing at the least mistake and 'accusing the elm while pointing at the mulberry tree’if one shows the least biast, talk about ' sitting on a hill to watch tigers fight,’ ' murdering with a borrowed sword, '‘borrowing wind to fan the fire, ’‘watching people drown from a dry bank,’and 'not troubling to right an oil bottle that's been knocked over…' they are all old hands at such tricks. ”
