以上所述，只是使用“rain check”的一种具体情境。至于“rain check”的一般涵义，还得查考词书：

由此可见：
甲、"rain check”可以由权充，也可以是因故（下雨或其它原因）另行发给、供以后使用立凭证； 乙、以准予延期使用者的口吻说，动词用“ give”(a rain check on...);而用被准予延期使用者的口气说，则用动词“take”（a rain check on …）；
丙、“rain-check”此词在使用过程中已经可以离开任何具体的“凭证”，而抽象地表示“延期干……”“慢慢再来”了。如LDCE中的最后一例：“谢谢，现在不想抽，回头抽罢”--- 实际上对话人之间并没有授受什么有形的“rain check”。这样“rain check”就既同 “rain”无关，也同“cheeks”无关了。
