英语句子较长，内容较多，而且词语的排列次序和汉语表达习惯不相同，在翻译时又不能采用顺译或部分顺译的方法，这时就要把句子拆开来分析，按照原意用汉语有步骤地把它翻译过来。所谓“有步骤地”就是可以考虑先译句中那些表示时间、地点、原因、条件、让步、目的和方式等关系的词句，后译那些表示结论(结果）、附加和推论等关系的词句。一个句子除了状语(包括状语从句）以外，剩下的其它成分(或从句）就容易安放在适当的位置译出来了。
例句：
1. Insects would make it impossible for us to live in the world ； they would devour all our crops and kill our flocks and herds，if it were not for the protection we get from insect-eating animals.
假如没有那些以昆虫为食的动物保护我们，昆虫将吞噬我们所有的庄稼，害死我们的牛羊家畜，使我们不能生存于世。
2. Great，therefore，was the rejoicing throughout Egypt when a traveler down the river Nile declared he was court physician to the king of a far country and would gladly. if he was allowed, examine the eyes of the blind man.
这时，有个从尼罗河下游来的游客，声称他是一个 远方国家的御医，并且说，如果受诏，他将非常乐意给国王诊治眼睛，因此埃及举国上下一片欢腾。 (译注：句末的the blind man指埃及国王。）
3. The sword clanked loudly as the boy was led off, but the child said nothing, though he was very unhappy at being treated so when he had done nothing wrong.
男孩被带走时，他身边的剑丁当作响，虽然当时他 没有做过错事，却因受到如此对待而感到十分委屈，但他仍忍气吞声。
4. There was great excitement throughout the village, and on the top of the hill the people stood, holding their sides with laughter, as they watched the Star Gazer trudge bravely along the valley with his bundle at the end of his stick.
全村都轰动起来，人们站在山顶上，瞧着望星人手杖末端系着包裹、勇敢地跋涉于山谷间，不由得捧腹大笑。
