(1) be no chicken （尤指女子）已不年轻；不是小孩子了
She is no chicken--she is at least thirty.
她已经不年轻了——至少也有30岁了。
(2) keep one's chin up 在困难环境下仍然乐观；毫不气馁
He has failed for several times in making the experiment, but he's been keeping his chin up.
做这个实验他已几经挫折，但他毫不气馁。
(3) a chip off the old block 性格像父亲的人（尤指男的）
He is an aggressive salesman--a chip off the old block.

1. He lays claim to the property.

2. I lay no claim to being an expert economist.

(9) clam up 沉默不语；抱不说话
He always clammed up when we asked about his family.
我们一问到他的家庭时，他总是闭口不言。
(10) clap sth. on (sth.) 涨价，提价（尤指不得人心的）
The government has clapped an extra ten pence on a packet of cigarettes.
政府对每包香烟提价十便士。
