有些习语虽然在汉英两种语言中各有不同的形象或比喻，但它们的隐义和内容基本上是一致的。遇到这种情况，不妨借用英语同义习语来译。但在借用英语习语时，必须注意两种习语各自的特点，避免在时代、地点、条件、民族习惯、色彩等方面与原作的上下文形成矛盾。
1) 半斤八两（习语）
six of one and half a dozen of the other
2)偷鸡不着浊把米（俗语）
to go for wool and come back shorn
3) 零零碎碎（成语）
odds and ends
4) 再三再四（成语）
time and again
5) 充耳不闻（成语）
to turn a deaf ear to
6) 破釜沉舟（成语）
to burn one's boats
7) 在实验过程中，他非常仔细，因为一有疏忽，往往会功败垂成。
In course of experiments he was very careful, because through negligence there would be a slip between the cup and the lip.
8) 只要善用时机,你会学到你所需要的一切。
So long as you make hay while the sun shines, you will learn everything indispensable.
9) 各种弹性体中条钢和块状橡胶名列前茅。
A bar of steel and a block of rubber come high in the list of elastic things.
10) 屋顶需要特別加以考虑，以确保经受日晒雨淋和在有时被化学物质严重污染的大气中有足够的耐久性。
Roofs require special consideration to ensure adequate durability in relation to the exposure to sun and rain, and to an atomosphere sometimes heavily polluted with chemicals.
