“火热”的第五个译法

说到“火热”，不免联想到它的对立面“冰冷”这“冰冷”，按《汉英词典》，英语只译作 “ice-cold”。它无疑是一个很贴切的译名。
至于“火热”，《汉英词典》为我们提供了更多的译名：①burning hot，②fiery，③fervent，④ intimate。大致说①和②为“火热”之本义；③和④则为其转义。
这里，来补充一个译名。这也得从“冰冷”的译名“ice-cold”说起；既然“冰冷”可译作“ice-cold”为什么“火热”就不可以译作——而且是首先译作“fire hot”呢？这“fire hot”便是我们为“火热”所提供的第五个译法。“fire-hot”这种译名同“ice-cold”一样，是英语习惯用法。有例为证：
