有时，英语长句中的某些成分，如定语从句（尤其是非限制性定语从句）、同位语、定语(分词作定语）以及破折号中的成分等，翻译时很是棘手，变动其位置无处安置，保留在原位又喧宾夺主。在这种情况下，如能把这些成分用加括号的办法拆译成注释性文字，则可使译文结构严整，表达准确。在这个意义上说，加括号译法也是拆译英语长句的行之有效的手段之一。请看以下各例。
1. The difficulties that would have to be encountered by anyone who attempted to explore the Moon---assuming that it was possible to go there---would be incomparably greater
than those that have to be faced in the endeavour to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
对于任何试图探索月球（假定到迖月球是可能的）的人来说，他们要遇到的困难之大，绝非攀登珠穆朗玛峰要遇到的困难可以比拟的。
2. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has been steadily increasing, and if it were doubled, which could well happen if we end up by burning all our coal, the average global temperature would increase by some three degrees centigrade.
大气中二氧化碳的含量一直在持续增加，如果再增加一倍（如果人类最终烧光所有的煤，二氧化碳再增加一倍是完全可能的）那么全球的平均温度就会升高3℃左右。
3. It has been generally recognised that the synthesis of carbohydrate is dependent on the presence of light, the green substance chlorophyll and a supply of carbon dioxide and water, together with other factors that probably affect the rate of synthesis but do not actually control it.
一般认为，碳水化合物的合成取决于光照、绿色物质叶绿素、一定量的二氧化碳和水，以及其它一些因素（其它因素一般只影响合成速度而无支配作用）。
4. This process of carrying pollen from one flower to another is called "cross-pollination" in contrast to self-pollination，the process by which certain flowers fertilize their seed with their own pollen.
同自花授粉（即某些花用自身的花粉给其种子授精的过程）相比，将花粉从一朵花传至另一朵花的过程称之为“异花授粉”。
5. Suppose a leaden ball of a pound weight, let fall from a steeple, reaches the earth in ten seconds, will a ball of two pounds, where the power of natural motion , as they call it, should be double reach it in five?
假如让一个一磅重的铅球从一座尖塔上落下，在十秒钟内落到地面，那未一个两磅重的铅球（它的固有动能应为前者的两倍）会在五秒钟内落到地上吗？
