(三）指示代词的减译
相对说来，英语指示代词减译的情况要比人称代词和物主代词少一些。但有时力了避免译文中出现不必要的重复， 也可以减译某些指示代词。例如：
7. Probably the most important set of chemical reaction on earth is that of photosynthesis.
地球上最重要的化学反应恐怕就是光合作用了。（指示代词that减译）
8. Like silicon, galium arsenide is a semiconductor---a material whose conductivity is between that of a conductor and an insulator.
象硅一样，砷化镓也是一种半导体材料，其导电率介于导体和绝缘体之间。（同上）
9. The liquid becomes a gas. This is called evaporation.
液体变成气体叫汽化。（指示代词this减译）
(四）反身代词的减译
用作宾语的英语反身代词往往可减去不译，不会因此而造成误解。例如：
10. At high pressure methane converts itself into a liquid.
甲烷在高压下会变成液体。（反身代词itself减译）
