译文选择合适的词

译文要做到通顺自然，准确恰当的用词是基础。但由于多数中国译者的英文水平达不到母语水平，无法根据语感作出选择判断，而是靠汉英词典，往往造成用词不当。对汉英词典提供的对等词，要经过几方面的检验， 才可以使用。例如：
这些使中国设计产业开始繁荣起来。
“繁荣”如何翻译？有一本汉英词典给出了这些词：boom, flourish, glory, prosper, thrift, thrive。除了 thrift—看就知道不对之外，其他的词能否使用，要经过英英词典的检验。 Boom是否可用？《柯林斯高级英语学习词典》第5版给出的解释包括：
If the economy or a business is booming, the amount of things being bought or sold is increasing.
By 1988 the economy was booming...
It has a booming tourist industry.
看来可以使用。
Flourish是否可用？剑桥高级英语学习词典这样解释：
flourish
flourish (SUCCEED)
verb [I]
to grow or develop successfully:
My tomatoes are flourishing this summer - it must be the warm weather. Watercolour painting began to flourish in Britain around 1750.
看来也可以使用。Glory是否可用？根据我们的感觉，这个词似乎没有繁荣的意思，排除掉。
