英语的定语译成汉语的定语，即译成“……的”这种形式，这是一般的译法。在译文里有时这个“的”字可以省略， 因为在汉语里“的”字不习惯于一连串地使用。
例句：
1. My home is in the capital.
我的家在首都。
2. This knife is dirty.
这把刀子是脏的。
3. Pasteur's next discovery was quite different.
巴斯德的下一项发现就完全不同了。
4. Does John have a yellow pencil?
约翰有支黄色铅笔吗？
5. There is no house to let in his school.
他的学校没有出租的房子。
6. This enormous increase of population will create immense problems.
人口的剧增会造成极大的问题。
7. He spent a long time looking at a drop of liquid food in his microscope.
他花费了很长时间来观察显微镜下的一滴液态食品。
8. This made the driver following her car brake hard.
这使跟着她车子后面的司机急刹车。
9. The path led to a tiny village perched on the steep sides of a mountain.
这条小道通往一个座落在陡峭山坡上的小村庄。
10. The people there have many peculiar customs.
那边的人民有许多奇特的风俗。
