* A digital computer has a series of instructions consisting of operation codes and addresses which it is able to interpreter and execute.

* The capacitor consists of two metal plates, separated by an insulating medium.
电容器由两个金属片组成，这两个金属片被绝缘介质所隔离。
5. 转译为状语
(1) 当英语句子中由动词派生的名词转译成动词时，原来修饰名词的定语常常相应地转译为状语，有时充当定语的介词短语也可转译成状语。如：
* In order to obtain accurate indications of range, the linear sweep of the cathode-ray tube must be timed precisely.
为了精确地指明距离，阴极射线管的线性扫描必须计时准确。
* A superficial glance at the table shows a strong correlation between the two sets of measurements.
粗看一下这张表就可以发现两组测量数据间有密切的联系。
(2) 有时作定语的分词短语常常含有时间、条件、原因、让步等状语含义，汉译时把作定语的分词短语译成状语从句，并适当加译表示状语从句的连接词。（可参见本书的非限定动词中分词的译法)。如：
* Liquids, containing no free electrons, are poor conductors of heat.
各种液体，由于不含自由电子，所以是热的不良导体。（译为原因状语从句）
* Electronic computers having many advantages cannot carry out creative work.
虽然电子计算机有很多优点，但它们不能进行创造性的工作。（译为让步状语从句）
* A coil of wire moving in a magnetic field will have an e.m.f induced in it.
当线圈在磁场中运动时，其内部会感应起ー个电动势。（译为时间状语从句）
