霍译：

霍译：
Lady Xing and Lady Wang stood in attendance behind Grandmother Jia's chair，with You-shi, Xi-feng and a number of other Jia ladies fanning out to left and right behind them.
5)只见他里头穿着……越显的蜂腰猿背，鹤势螂形。众人都笑道：“偏他只爱打扮成个小子的样儿，原比他打扮女儿更俏丽了些。” (第四十九回）
杨译：
...she revealed a... With her slender build she looked thoroughly neat and dashing.
"She loves dressing up like a boy,"they teased."And that costume suits her better than a girl's."
霍译：
She had on a... The whole ensemble greatly enhanced the somewhat masculine appearance of her figure with its graceful，athletic bearing.
The others laughed ：
‘She loves dressing up as a boy. Actually she looks even more fetching in boy's clothes than she does as a girl.'
例3的“掩耳偷铃”是贾政对宝玉学习《诗经》的态度，表现了他满脑子的《四书》、《五经》、科举、八股。短短一句话，借助这个生动妥帖的比喻，就使贾政沽名钓誉、颐指气使的封建家长形象跃然纸上。例4的“两溜雁翅”意即“象两排展翅飞翔的大雁似的”，把贾母八旬大寿人席时的礼法秩序和壮观场面活现出来。例5用“显的”作喻词，仅用 “蜂腰猿背，鹤势螂形”这八个字就把湘云穿戴打扮成“小子的样儿”刻画了出来。显然，这些暗喻的修辞效果是不容忽视的，但是两个译本却采取了令人遗憾的忽视态度。
当然，就暗喻的翻译而言，两译本带给读者更多的不是遗憾，而是架起了沟通原作与译文读者的桥梁，创造出许多与原作如影随形的妙语佳喻：
