汉语中强调主语时常常用“是”、“一定是”、“准是”、“大概是”、“看来是”、“似乎”、“是否”等来表达，译成英语时则用"It is...that (who)","It must have been (done) that …" , "Whether or not …"，"It appears that..." 等句型，例如:
a. —定是你们错误借记我们的帐了，我方此期间并未发生过这样一笔业务。
You must have debited that amount to our account by mistake, for no such transaction can be traced on our record.
b. 决定事物的因素是人而不是物。
It is the people, not things, that are decisive.
c. 在这个庄严的历史时刻，我们深切怀念邓小平先生。 (是）他以伟太的政治气魄和非凡智慧提出的"一国两制”方针，为解决香港、澳门和台湾问题指明了正确的道路。
