标准文献的通用词组与句型及翻译特征

为起到“明文规定”或“法定要求”的修辞效果，英文标准文献常在第三人称使用shall+ v及其被动语态，即shll + be + v-ed (或委婉的should + v及should + be + v-ed)或其否定，来表示“必须”、“应该”、'‘不应”、“不得”。例如：
d.The chemical composition of the cement as a whole shall comply with the following requirement. 水泥本身的化学成分必须符合下列要求。
c.The test specimen should be at approximately the same temperature as the room in which the test is made. 试品温度应和进行该项试验的室内溫度大致相等。
d.The mass of magnesia shall not exceed 90%. 氧化镁含量不得超过90%。
e.The period between consecutive flashovers shall be not less than 15 seconds nor more than 5 minutes.相邻两次闪络的时间间隔应不短于15秒，不长于5分钟。
在就，一般技术标准内对所用的术语都有解释，翻译时一定要准确地表达。标准内有规定的，一般都应按照规定的定义使用。翻泽时必须注意术语的前后统一，同时还要注意与其他标准译文相协调。
