帝曰:神有余不足何如?岐伯曰:神有余则笑不休，神不足则悲，血气未并，五藏安定，邪客於形，洒淅起於毫毛，未入於经络也，故命曰神之微。帝曰:补写奈何?岐伯曰:神有余，则写其小络之血[守校本“血”作脉]，出血勿之深斥，无中其大经，神气乃平。神不足者，视其虚络，按[《甲乙》《太素》“按”本作“切”]而致之，刺而利[《甲乙》“利”作“和”]之，无出其血，无泄其气，以通其经，神气乃平。帝日:刺微奈何?岐伯日:按摩勿释，著针勿斥，移气于不足[林校云:“按《甲乙》及《太素》作‘移气于足’，无‘不’字”]，神气乃得复。
Yellow Emperor asked:"What will happen when the spirit is having a surplus or being insufficient?" Qibo sad: "When there is a surplus in the spirit, one will laugh at the top of his voice continuously, when the spirit is insufficient, one will be melancholic. If the evil-energy has not yet mingled with the blood and energy, the five viscera can remain their stablity. By this time, the evil-energy retains shallowly in the body, the cold-evil is only on the skin and the soft hair instead of reaching the channel and it is called the slight disease of the spirit." Yellow Emperor asked:"How to apply invigoration and purge in treating?" Qibo said: "When one's spirit is having a surplus, prick the small collateral until bleeding to purge but must not insert the needle deeply to hurt the large channel in this way, the spirit can be adjusted to become normal. When the spirit is insufficient, the invigorating therapy should be applied. Seek along the asthenic collateral to reach the focus and prick with needle, guard against bleeding nor the letting out of the energy, when the channel and collaterals are dredged, the spirit will be a ajusted to become normal." Yellow Emperor asked: "How to treat the slight disease of the spirit with pricking?" Qibo said:"Do not lift up the hand when massaging, the insertion of needle must not be deep, when the energy and blood are led to the location which is insufficient and becomes substantial, the spirit will be recovered."
帝日:善!有余[《太素》“有余”上并有“气”字]不足奈何?岐伯日:气有余则喘咳上气，不足则息[“息”下脱“不”字]利少气。血气未并，五藏安定皮肤微病，命日白气微泄。帝日:补写奈何?岐伯日:气有余，则写其经隧，无伤其经，无出其血，无泄其气;不足，则补其经隧，无出其气。帝曰:刺微奈何?岐伯曰:按摩勿释，出针视之，曰我[《甲乙》“我”作“故”]将深之，适人[《太系》箫校引《甲乙》“人”作“入”]必革，精气自伏，邪气散乱，无所休[《太素》“休”作“优”]息，气泄腠理，真气乃相得。

By this time, the evil-energy can only invade the skin and injure the lung-energy slightly and the disease is called the slight discharge of the white-energy. The lung-energy is also called the white-energy as the colour of metal is white." Yellow Emperor asked:"How to treat the disease with invigoration and purgation?" Qibo said: "When the energy is having a surplus, the channel should be purged by pricking, but it must not cause bleeding to excrete the energy, and the channel must not be injured. If the energy is insufficient, the channel should be invigorated, but the energy must not be discharged." Yellow Emperor asked: "How to treat the slight disease of energy by pricking?" Qibo said:"When treating, massage the focus without loosening the hand, show the needle to the patient and tell him that you are going to prick deeply so as to cause the refined-energy of the patient to conceal inside, and change into shallow pricking when inserting, in this way, the evil-energy can not but disperse to outside as it can retain nowhere. When the evil-energy is excreted through the striae, the healthy-energy will be restored."
