周痹/Zhou Bi
(The Bi-Syndrome all over the Body)
黄帝问于岐伯日:周痹之在身也，上下移徙，随脉其[随脉其:按:“脉其”二字误倒]上下[上下:按“上下”二字误衍]，左右相应，间不容空，愿闻此痛，在血脉之中邪?将在分肉之间乎?何以致是?其痛之移也，间不及下针，其槒痛之时，不及定治，而痛已止矣，何道使然?愿闻其故。岐伯答日:此众痹也，非周痹也。
Yellow Emperor asked Qibo:"When one has the bi-syndrome all over the body, it runs here and there along the blood circulation on the left and right sides to reach everywhere, diffusing extensively which has almost left no pace for a hole. I hope to know whether the evil of this pain is in the channel or in the muscle and the reason of it. In the interval of the pain's transfering, the time is not enough for the pricking, in the period of the pain taking form, the time is not enough for one to determine the way of treating, and no sooner than the treatment starts, the pain has been ceased, I hope to know the reason about it. " Qibo said:"In this case, it is the poly bi-syndrome, and it is not the bi-syndrome all over the body."
黄帝曰:愿闻众痹。岐伯对日:此[此:《古今医统》卷十一《痹证门》作“凡众痹”]各在其处，更发更止，更居更起，以右应左，以左应右，非能周也，更发更休也。黄帝曰:善。刺之奈何?岐伯对日:刺此者，痛虽已止，必刺其处，勿令复起。
Yellow Emperor said: "I want to know the condition of the poly bi-syndrome." Qibo said:"The poly bi-syndrome scatters on the various parts of the body respectively, it is easy to break out and easy to terminate, easy to become active and easy to become inactive, the disease on the left side can affect the right side and that of the right side can affect the left side, it can spread all over the body, its pain can easily burst out and can cease easily."Yellow Emperor said: "Good, but how to treat the disease by pricking?"Qibo answered: "When pricking the poly bi-syndrome, it should prick the site of the pain repeatedly even if the pain has stopped to avoid the coming back of the pain.
帝日:善。愿闻周痹何如?岐伯对日:周痹者，在于血脉之中，随脉以上，随脉以下，不能左右，各当其所。黄帝日:刺之奈何?岐伯对日:痛从上下者，先刺其下以过(一作遏下同)之，后刺其上以脱之;痛从下上者，先刺其上以过之，后刺其下以脱之。
Yellow Emperor said:"Good. I hope to hear the condition about the bi-syndrome all over the body. "Qibo answered: "In bi-syndrome all over the body, the evil is in the channel. it runs up and down along the channel, unable to run to the left and right and it causes pain on the site where the evil energy locates. " Yellow Emperor asked: "How to treat it by pricking?" Qibo answered: "If the pain is from above, prick below to stop the developement of the disease first, then, prick above to eliminate its root; if the pain is from below, prick above to stop the developement of the disease first, then, prick below to eliminate the root of the disease."
黄帝日:善。此痛安生?何因而有名?岐伯对日:风寒湿气，客于外分肉之间，迫切而为沫，沫得寒则聚，聚则排分肉而分裂也[而分裂也:《千金》卷八第一《素问・痹论》王注无“而分裂也”四字]，分[分:《千金》卷八第一作“肉”]裂则痛，痛则神归之，神归之则热，热则痛解，痛解则厥，厥则他痹发，发则如是。
Yellow Emperor said:"Good. How docs the pain of the bi-syndrome all over the body come about? Why is it called the bi-syndrome all over the body?" Qibo answered: "When the wind-cold and the warm-pathogen invade the muscle and the skin, it forces the body fluid to become phlegm and saliva which will become condensed and stagnated due to cold, and the
stagnated phlegm and saliva will be squeezed and split the muscles to cause pain, when one is painful, his attention will be concentrated on the painful location, the concentration of attention will produce heat which will cause the cold to disperse and the pain to become alleviated; after the alleviation of the pain, the chaotic energy will reverse up to cause pain in other locations where the bi-syndromes resides and forms the bi-syndrome all over the body.
帝日:善。余已得其意矣[帝日善，余已得其意矣:此九字涉下误衍，应删]。此内不在藏，而外未发于皮，独居分肉之间，真气不能周，故命日周痹。故刺痹者，必先切循其下之六经，视其虚实，及大络之血结而不通，及虚而脉陷空者而调之，熨而通之，其瘛坚，转引而行之。黄帝日:善。余已得其意矣。亦得其事也。九者，经巽之理，十二经脉阴阳之病也。

" Yellow Emperor said: "Good. Now I know the condition of the bi-syndrome and the principle of its treating. "
