四时刺逆从论篇/Si Shi Ci Ni Cong Lun
(The Regular and Adverse Treatments of Acupuncture in the Four Seasons)
厥阴有余，病阴痹;不足，病生[明抄本，明抄二“病”。下并无“生”字]热痹;滑则病狐疝风;濇则病少腹积气。
When the energy of the Jueyin Channel is excessive, the yin-type bi-syndrome will occur; when it is insufficient, the heat-type arthralgia will occur; when the pulse condition is slippery, the inguinal hernia due to wind-evil will occur, when the pulse condition is choppy, it shows there is retention of energy in the lower abdomen.
少阴有余，病皮痹隐轸[《永乐大典》卷一万三千八百七十七引“轸”作“疹”按“隐轸”即“癔胗”];不足，病肺痹;滑则病肺风疝，濇则病积溲血。
When the energy of the Shaoyin Channel is excessive, skin itching and urticaria will occur; when it is insufficient, the lung-bi-syndrome will occur; when the pulse condition is slippery, lung hernia due to wind-evil will occur, when the pulse condition is choppy, abdominal mass and hematuria will occur.
太阴有余，病肉痹寒中;不足，病脾痹;滑则病脾风疝;濇则病积心腹时满。
When the energy of the Taiyin Channel is excessive, myalgia and cold in the middle warmer will occur; when it is insufficient, splenic bi-syndrome will occur; when the pulse condition is slippery, splenic hernia due to wind-evil will occur; when the pulse condition is choppy, abdominal mass and distention of the heart and abdomen will often occur.
阳明有余，病脉痹，身时热;不足，病心痹;滑则病心风疝;濇则病积时善惊。
When the energy of the Yangming Channel is excessive, the channel bi-syndrome will occur, and the patient will often have fever; when it is insufficient, the cardiac bi-syndrome will occur; wheh the pulse condition is slippery, heart-channel colic due to wind-evil will occur, when the pulse condition is choppy, the patient will have abdominal mass and panic.
太阳有余，病骨痹身重;不足病肾痹;滑则病肾风疝;濇则病积善时[明抄二“积”下无“善时”三字]巅疾，
When the energy of the Taiyang Channel is excessive, bone bi-syndrome will occur, and the patient will feel heavy of the body: when it is insufficient, kidney bi-syndrome will occur; when the pulse condition is slippery, kidney hernia due to wind-evil will occur, when the pulse condition is choppy, it shows the patient will have the abdominal mass or the disease on head often.
少阳有余，病筋痹胁满;不足病肝痹;滑则病肝风疝;濇则病积时筋急目痛。
When the energy of the Shaoyang Channel is excessive, tendinous bi-syndrome will occur, and the patient will feel fullness of the hypochondrium; when it is insufficient, hepatic bi-syndrome will occur: when the pulse condition is slippery, hepatic hernia due to cold-evil will occur, when the pulse condition is choppy, it shows abdominal mass, and the patient will have contracture of tendon and sore eyes.
是故春气在经脉，夏气在孙络，长夏气在肌肉，秋气在皮肤，冬气在骨髓中。帝日:余愿闻其故。岐伯日:春者、天气始开，地气始泄，冻解冰释，水行经通，故人气在脉。夏者、经满气溢、入[“入字衍，应据姚止庵说删]孙络受血，皮肤充实。长夏者、经络皆盛，内溢肌中。秋者、天气始收，媵理闭塞，皮肤引急。冬者盖藏，血气在中，内著骨髓，通于五藏。是故邪气者，常随四时之气血而入客也，至其变化不可为[明抄二“为”作“以”]度，然必从其经气，辟除其邪，除其邪[明抄二无此三字]，则乱气不生。
Thus in spring, the energy is in the channel; in summer, the energy is in the minute collateral; in long summer, the energy of wetness and earth is in the muscle; in autumn, the energy of dryness and metal is in the skin: in winter, the energy is in the bone marrow. Yellow Emperor said:" I like to hear the reason of why the spring energy is in the channel, the energy of summer is in the minute collateral, the energy of long summer is in the muscle, the energy of autumn is in the skin, and the energy of winter is in the bone marrow?" Qibo said:"In spring, the Yang energy begins to rise, and the earth energy has just
revealed, the frozen earth has thawed out, the ice has been melted, the water can flow in the river, and all things come to life again. Thus the energy of man which is corresponding with the spring energy is located in the channel. In summer, all things are growing, the energy in the channel is full and over-abundant, the minute collateral can be nourished fully by the blood, and the skin becomes ruddy and substantial. Thus the energy of man which is corresponding with the summer energy is located in the minute collateral. In long summer, both the channel and the collateral are prosperous and they can moist the muscle completely, as the long summer associates with the spleen, and the spleen associates with the muscle so the energy of man which is corresponding to the long summer energy is located in the muscle. In autumn, the weather begings to restrain itself, the striae of human body becomes closed and the skin becomes shrinking in the wake of it, so, the energy of man which is corresponding to the autumn energy is located in the skin. In winter which is the season of shutting and hiding, the energy and blood store in the body, the refined energy is attaching the bone marrow and communicating with the five viscera, so, the energy of man which is corresponding to the winter energy is located in the bone marrow. Therefore, the evil-energy often invades into the body along with the various conditions of the energy and blood in different season, and its specific variations can hardly be inferred. But in treating, the evil-energy must be removed according to the different locations where the energy resided in various seasons. In this way, the disease may not occur."
