经络论篇/Jing Luo Lun
(On Collaterals)
黄帝问日:夫络脉之见也，其五色各异，青黄赤白黑不同，其故何也?岐伯对日:经有常色而络无常变也。
Yellow Emperor asked:"When the collaterals appear outside, they have five different colours of green, yellow, red, white and black, and what is the reason?"
Qibo answered: "The colour of the channel is not changing, but the colour of the collateral is changable."
帝日:经之常色何如?岐伯日:心赤、肺白、肝青、脾黄、肾黑，皆亦应其经脉之色也。
Yellow Emperor asked: "What are the regular colours of the twelve channels?" Qibo answered: "The twelve channels are connecting the five viscera, and the colours of the five viscera are different: the heart is red, the lung is white, the liver is green, the spleen is yellow and the kidney is black. In the twelve channels, the colour of the channel is the same with that of the viscus it connects."
帝日:络之阴阳，亦应其经乎?岐伯日:阴络之色应其经，阳络之色变无常，随四[《太素》“随”下无“四”字]时而行也。寒多则凝泣，凝拉则青黑;热多则淖泽，淖泽则黄赤;此皆常色，谓之无病[明抄二夹注云:“‘此皆’八字，当在‘随时而行’之下”]，五色具[《太素》“具”作“俱”]见者，谓之寒热。帝日:善。
Yellow Emperor asked: "Are the Yin (deep) collateral and the Yang (shallow) collaterals correspond with the regular colour of the channel to which they belong?"
Qibo answered: "The colour of the Yin collateral corresponds with the colour of its related channel, but the colour of the Yang collateral is changable, and the colour changes along with the change of the weather.
"When the weather is extremely cold, the blood will be tardy and stagnated, and its colour will be greenish-black; when the weather is extremely wet and hot, the blood will be moist and smooth, and its colour will be yellowish-red. These colours are normal which show a good health of the body. If the five colours are appearing at the same time, it is caused by the extreme cold or extreme heat of the body. Yellow Emperor said: "Good."
