皮部论篇/Pi Bu Lun
(On the Parts of Skin)
黄帝问曰:余闻皮有分部，脉有经纪，筋有结络，骨有度量。其所生病各异，别其分部，左右上下，阴阳所在，病之始终，愿闻其道。
Yellow Emperor said:"I am told that the various parts of skin are belonging to the twelve channels respectively, in the distribution of vessels, some are vertical and some are horizontal, in the distribution of tendons, there are knots and collaterals: in the distribution of bones, some of them are large and long and some of them are small and short. The diseases stemmed from various organs are different, and they can only be distinguished by the parts of skin which belong to various channels respectively, and besides, one must also take into account of the upper and lower, left and right positions, the attribute of Yin or Yang and the process of developement of the disease. I hope you can tell me further about it."
岐伯对曰:欲知皮部以经脉为纪者[《太素》“纪”下无“者”字]，诸经皆然。阳明之阳，名曰害蜚，上下同法。视其部中有浮络者，皆阳明之络也。其色多青则痛，多黑则痹，黄[据《太素》“黄赤”上脱“多”字]赤则热，多白则寒，五色皆见，则寒热也。络盛则入客于经，阳主外，阴主内。
Qibo asid:"When one wants to determine to which channel the part of skin belongs, it should base on the locations where the channel reaches and passes. The conditions of all the twelve channels are the same.
"The Yang-collaterals of Yangming Channel which reaches and passes the part of skin is called Haifei' (the killing energy which hinders birth and growth). The conditions of Hand Yangming Channel and Foot Yangming Channel are the same. The floating collaterals seen in the part of skin are all the floating collaterals of the Yangming Channel, if the collaterals are mostly green, it shows there is pain; if they are mostly black, it shows there is bi (the disease of blocking of extremities, meridians and viscera by evils); if they are mostly yellowish-red, it shows there is heat; if they are mostly white, it shows there is cold; if all the five colour are existing it shows there is the disease of alternating heat and cold. When the evil-energy of the collaterals is over-abundant, it will invade into its channel. The collaterals belong to the Yang and they take charge of the exterior, and the channels belong to Yin take charge of the interior.
少阳之阳，名日枢持，上下同法。视其部中有浮络者，皆少阳之络也。络盛则入客于经。故在阳者主内，在阴者主出，以渗于内，诸经皆然[“故在阳”以下十九字，张琦以为伪误，孙鼎宜以为衍文，吴注本册此十九字]。
"The Yang-collaterals of shaoyang Channel which reach and pass the part of skin are called 'shuchi' (the axle of pivot), and the conditions of the Hand Shaoyang Channel and Foot Shaoyang Channel are the same. The floating collaterals seen in the part of skin are all the collaterals of Shaoyang Channel. When the evil-energy in the collaterals is overabundant, it will penetrate into its channel.
太阳之阳，名日关枢，上下同法。视其部中有浮络者，皆太阳之络也。络盛则入客于经。
"The Yang collaterals of Taiyang Channel which reach and pass the part of skin is called 'Guanshu' (the controlling pivot). The conditions of both the Hand Taiyang and Foot Taiyang are the same. The floating collaterals seen on the part of skin are all the collaterals of Taiyang Channel. When the evil-energy in the collaterals is overabundant, it will penetrate into its channel.
少阴之阴，名日枢儒，上下同法。视其部中有浮络者，皆少阴之络也。络盛则入客于经，其入经也，从阳部注于经[“经”蒙上误，似应作“筋”];其[《太素》“其”下有“经”字，按“经”字应在“出”字下，为“其经出者”]出者，从阴内[《太素》“阴”下无“内”字，按“阴内”应作“阴部”《甲乙》作“阴部”“阴部”谓脉也]注于骨。
"The Yin-collaterals in Shaoyin Channel which reach and pass the part of skin is called‘shuru’ (the axle sleeve of pivot). The conditions of the Hand Shaoyin Channel and the Foot Shaoyin channel are the same. The flooting collaterals seen on the part of skin are all the collaterals on the shaoyin Channel. When the evil-energy in the collateral is over-abundant, it will penetrate into its channel. When the evil-energy invades into the channel, it will pour into the tendon through the collaterals; if it does not invade the channel, it will pour into the bone through the vessel.
