刺疟篇/Ci Nue
(On Treating Malaria with Acupuncture)
足太阳之疟，令人腰痛头重，寒从背起，先寒后热，熇熇暍暍然，热止汗出[《甲乙》巢元方“暍暍”作“渴渴”，《太素》“熇熇暍暍然热止汗出”作“渴渴止汗出”]，难已，刺郄中出血。
The malaria of Foot Taiyang Channel causes the patient to have lumbago, heaviness of head and chill from the back. He feels cold first and then feels hot, and when the fever is over, he perspires severely. This kinds of malaria can hardly be healed. When treating, it should prick the Weizhong (Popliteal Certre BL.40) point until bleeding
足少阳之疟，令人身体解休[《病论》“俅”作“倦”]，寒不甚，热不甚[《甲乙》无“热不甚”三字]，恶见人，见人心惕惕然，热多汗出甚，刺足少阳。
The malaria of Foot Shaoyang Channel causes the patient to have fatigue of the body, a slight cold, has aversion of meeting people and being frightened when meeting people; the duration of the fever is comparatively long, and the patient perspires a lot. When treating, prick the Foot Shaoyang Channel.
足阳明之疟，令人先寒，洒淅[按此衍“洒淅”二字，所遗“洒淅”二字应下读]洒淅，寒甚久乃热，热去汗出[“出”字误，据王注应作“己”]，喜见日月[《病源》、《圣济总录》引“日”下无“月”字]光火气，乃快然，刺足阳明跗上[《甲乙》“跗上”下有“及调冲阳”四字]。
The malaria of Foot Yangming Channel causes the patient to have severe cold first; after a period, he will have fever, and when the heat comes down, the perspiration stops along with it. This kind of patient desires for seeing the sunlight and the flame of fire, and will feel comfortable when seeing them. When treating, prick the Chongyang (Rushing Yang ST. 42) point of Foot Yangming Channel on the dorsum of the foot.
足太阴之疟，令人不乐，好太息，不嗜食，多寒热[《甲乙》作“多寒少热”]汗出，病至则善呕，呕已乃衰，即取之[《甲乙》“取之”下有“足太阴”三字]。
The malaria of Foot Taiyin Channel causes the patient to become depressed, he sighs often, reluctant to eat with much cold and little fever. He has sweat and vomits when the disease attacks, and being relieved after vomitting. When treating, prick the Gongsun (Collateral Point of Spleen Channel SP. 4) point of the Foot Taiyin Channel.
足少阴之疟，令人[《外台》引“令人”下有“闷”字]呕吐甚，多寒热，热多寒少，欲闭户牖而处，其病难已。
The malaria of Foot Shaoyin Channel causes the patient to become depressed, he vomits severly, has cold and fever frequently with much fever and little cold, and he desires to close the door and the windows and stay in the room. This kind of malaria can hardly be healed.
足厥阴之疟，令人腰痛少腹满，小便不利，如癃状[据《图经》卷五《太冲》条应作“淋淋”]，非癃也[似系“如癃”之旁记混入正文]，数便，意恐惧[林校云:“按《甲乙经》“数便意”三字作“数噫”二字]，气不足，腹[《太素》“腹”作“肠”]中悒悒，刺足厥阴。
The malaria of Foot Jueyin Channel causes the patient to have lumbago, distention of the lower abdomen, dysuria like stranguria. He eructates and becomes frightened often, has deficiency of breath and impediment of the intestine. When treating, prick the Taichong (Great Rush LR.3) point of the Foot Jueyin Channel.
肺疟者，令人心寒，寒甚[《千金》“甚”下有“则发”二字]热，热间[《千金》“间”下有“则”字]善惊，如有所见者，刺手太阴阳明。
The malaria of lung causes the patient to feel cold from the heart, when the coldness is in the extreme, fever will come in the wake of it. During the fever, the patient is apt to become frightened as if he has seen something. When treating, prick the Lieque (Branching Crevice LU.7) point of the Hand Taiyin Channel and the Hegu (Connected Valleys LI.4) point of the Hand Yangming Channel.
心疟者，令人烦心甚，欲得[《千金》《外台》“得”作“饮”]清水，反[《甲乙》无“反”字]寒多，不甚热，刺手少阴。
The malaria of heart causes the patient to have strong feverish sensation accompanied with restlessness, desire of drinking cold water, and he has much coldness with little fever. When treating, prick the Shenmen (Spiritual Gate HT.7) point of the Hand Shaoyin Channel.
肝疟者，令人色苍苍然，太息[《甲乙》无此二字]，其状若死者。刺足厥阴见血。
The malaria of liver causes the patient to have pale and green complexion like a dead man. When treating, prick the Foot Jueyin Channel until bleeding.
脾疟者，令人寒，腹中痛，热则肠中[《太素》杨注《医垒元戎》无“中”字]鸣，鸣已[《千金》无“鸣已”二字]汗出，刺足太阴。
The malaria of spleen causes the patient to have cold which he can hardly bear, pain in the abdomen, borborygmus due to the shifting down of the spleen-heat, and perspiration. When treating, prick the Shangqiu (Shang Hill SP.5) point of the Foot Taiyin Channel.
