1.She made believe not to be aware of my presence?

2.The boys made believe (that) they were astronauts.

(2) under one's belt（指饮食）吃进或喝进肚子里；(转义指学问、知识装进肚子里）获得的

1. He wanted me to get plenty of financial knowledge under my belt like him.

他想让我像他那样掌握许多金融方面的知识。

2. She already has good academic qualifications under her belt.

她已获得良好学历。

(3) bend the rules（根据情况）放宽规定；变通；通融

1. Do you think it's all right to bend the rules in this ease?

你认为在这种情况下通融一下可以吗？

(4) drive (sb.）round the bend/twist 使（某人）发疯；恼火；叫（某人）受不了

1. His behavior is driving me round the bend.

他的行为使我恼火。

2. You two will drive me round the bend soon. I know you're going to drive me mad.

你们俩迟早会叫我受不了的。我知道你们要逼得我发疯。

(5) give (sb.）the benefit of the doubt 因证据不足而承认（某人）无罪、无过失等；（转义）对某人有所怀疑但仍做出对他有利的决定或肯定

1. By allowing her to go free the judge gave the accused the benefit of the doubt.

法官因证据不足对被告做了无罪的指定而释放了他。

2. Mendel's data were not enough to support his conclusion, but he gave himself the benefit of the doubt.

孟德尔得到的数据不足以支持他的结论，但他在证据不足的情况下就肯定了自己的结论。

(6) beside oneself (with sth.） （因过于激动）失去自制力；极端激动

1. He was beside himself with rage when he saw the mess.

他看到一切都乱七八糟就勃然大怒。

2. I was beside myself with joy when I heard the good news.

听到这个好消息我欣喜若狂。

(7) as best one can 尽自己最大努力；尽力而为

1. The facilities were not ideal, but we managed as best we could.

设备不理想，但我们尽了最大的努力。

2. Her foot hurt, but she played the game as best she could.

她的脚受伤了，可是她还是尽了最大努力投入了比赛。

(8) make the best of it (遭到失败或不幸时）尽力而为；随遇而安

The conditions here are not as good as we have expected, but we'll have to make the best of it. 

这里的条件不像我们所期望的那么好，但是我们只好随遇而安了。

(9) for better（or) for worse （在教堂举行婚礼时的誓宫）同甘共苦；祸福与共

They have taken each other for better or for worse.

他们们已结为夫妻。

(10) think better of (sth）（对某事）改变看法；改变主意

He said plainly that he was not going to do it, but I fancied he might have thought better of it. 

他明明白白地说过他不想做这件事，但我想他可能改变主意了。
