下面请看另一个例子。这个例子取自一所名牌大学的中英文网站：

学校校园占地7000余亩，园内树木葱茏，碧草如茵，环境优雅，景色秀丽，绿化覆盖率72%，被誉为“森林式大学”。

(The university) covers an area of over 1,153 acres with picturesque environment, elegant surroundings and has 72% greenery coverage, which has been honored as the "University in the Forest".

这段译文的毛病与前面谈到的把“入口”译成enter the mouth 的毛病有着本质的区别。这里的译者显然是正经学过英语的。虽然我国英语教育极其重视语法，但学生老师使用英语时语法错误还是十分常见。从语法来看，此处译文语法没有大毛病，但有小毛病。首先，environment与surroundings两个并列名词之间不用连词，给人“悬念”，觉得这个意群还没完，而且environment前面缺少不定冠词。其次，which从句离被修饰语（大学）太远，这一点应该是这段话中的主要语法错误。总之，语法是小毛病，最大的毛病是中文腔太足,多处用词不当,如covers应改成occupies, surroundings是指校园以外（这显然不是作者或译者的原意），honored as的用法也是怪诞不经。此外，原文里本来似乎有点诗情画意，在译文里却丧失殆尽。笔者试译如下，希望比原译有所改进：

Known as a "woodland garden university", our campus spans over 1,153 acres, with green space accounting for 72 percent, soaking in a lash, picturesque ambience that combines invitingly natural beauty with elegantly landscaped charm.

此处举这些例子的意图

是作为一枚镜子，照一照反向的情况。品尝一下中式英文的味道，然后再回过头来看看，可以对英式中文有更敏锐的感觉。的确，有人虽然在写英文时如此偏爱中文思维，在将英文译成中文时却死死抱住英文思维不放，这就是造成许多弊病的症结所在。需要再次强调指出，使用中文时，尤其在将外文译成中文时，我们必须用中文思维。
