三、比较级+ than的译法

more...than句型是英语中将两个人或事物进行比较使用最多的一种句型，句子中than引导出完整的或是省略了ー些成分的比较状语从句。翻译more...than句型不能千篇一律地译为“比”句型，科技英语中常常要根据上下文灵活地进行翻译，比如译为 “与……相比，……更”、“超过了”等。如：

* The robot is a lighter, more portable piece of equipment than an NC machine tool.

与数控机床相比，机器人是ー种重量更轻，更便于携带的设备。

* Self-pollinated forms are likewise less variable than those that must be cross-pollinated.

自花授粉植物比异花授粉植物变异机会要少。 

四、程度状语+比较级的译法

有时候，在比较级前会出现much, far, even, still, a bit, a little, yet等ー些表示程度的词或短语，用以表示强调。汉译时可译为“得多”、“大大”等，或灵活地在译文中体现这些词或短语的含义。如：

* Transistors need much less current, and produce much less heat, than comparable electronic valves.

与相应的电子管相比，晶体管需要的电流小得多，所产生的热也少得多。

* In liquid the molecules are much closer together than they are in ages.

在液体中，分子之间的距离比在气体中近得多。

五、more and more的译法

两个相同的比较级可以用and连接起来重叠使用，汉译时可以译为“越来越”。

如：

* The accumulation of more and more details of the process leads to a more and more accurate explanation of its mechanism.
