(2) 副词too作“太”讲，用于形容词和副词之前，往往表示否定含义，常指消极的、超出了应有的范围的情況，应译为“太”、“过”。如：

* Too small spacing among the plant stands is causative of the crop failure.

株距太小是农作物歉收的原因。

(3)“too +形容词或副词+动词不定式”或“too/rather +形容词或副词+ for”的句型，通常翻译为否定句，可译为“非常……，不”、“太……（以至干）不”。如：

* This concentration of vanadium is rather small for the formation of decavanadates. 

钒的浓度非常低，不能形成癸钒酸盐。

The diameter of the tube is too small to see with the naked eye.

这根管子的直径太小了.用肉眼看不出来。

如果后面的动词不定式为否定形式，汉译时，则要译为肯定句。如: 

* The alloy is too cheap for us not to use it widely in industry.

这种合金造价很低，我们可以把它广泛地用于工业上。 

11. yet的译法

(1) yet用在陈述句和否定句中，表示“仍然”、“尚有”、“尚（未)”、“还（没)” 等。汉译时，视情况把它的含义译出来。如：

* Yet molecules are always moving, some perhaps as fast as a mile per second. 

分子仍然总在运动，其中有些分子的运动速度达每秒一英里。

(2) yet与比较级连用，表示强调，这时可译为“更”等。如：

Flame-spraying is yet a more versatile way to apply hard-surface coatings. 

火焰喷射法是涂硬表层更为常用的方法。

(3) yet与最高级连用，意思为“到目前为止……最”。如：

* Among the three types, the squirrel-cage motor is the least expensive a.c. motor yet. 

到目前为止，鼠笼式电动机是可供选择的三种型号中价格最低廉的。

* This is the best and most effective method of control of the blast furnace yet.

这是目前为止高炉操作最好、最有效的控制方法。
